In Aghagallon Community Centre, mixed-media journals were created in our project “Life Unfolded”
Each front cover features a mixed media self-portrait with a fist clutching a visual cue of a hobby or something important in that person’s life. The accordion sketchbook that unfolds from behind is filled with personal reflections in text and image on aspects of individual life journeys. Some annotations are historical, others funny, unexpected or fascinating but all are unique. We had lots of laughs on our trip down memory lane. Always ready to rise to new challenges, we were lucky to have most workshops face to face where participants were encouraged to sample some new art processes and extend their skill base. We experimented with pen and ink drawings, paint, embossing, simple printing, calligraphy and collage. The journals give us a glimpse into lives being lived fully with the knowledge the road has not yet ended and there will be many more stories to record as we travel life's journey.
