In Northern Ireland we have a strong oral tradition of passing on tales and stories from one generation to the next. Arts Care artist Grainne Kielty has interpreted the theme ‘Living Well, More Tales To Tell’ – to deliver an eight-week programme with the East Belfast Wise Mens Shed. These wise men from the East met weekly at the Arts Care space. Here they had many chats, ate lots of cake and wandered their way through a variety of art media. They began with simple watercolour painting and moved onto clay tile making. They used the tiles to share stories or moments from their pasts that have shaped who they are today. This creative programme used clay and lots of chat to create meaningful beautiful ceramic artworks with a Tale to Tell…and those boys had some tales to tell!
Over the weeks our friendship grew, as did our talent. We are all looking forward to our next art adventure together soon.
