Improving Personal Health & Wellbeing Through The Arts

Skylarks Bring Creativity and Connection to Older Adults

Transforming care environments through the power of the arts

At Arts Care, we believe in the transformative power of the arts, and Skylarks is our newest initiative to extend that magic to older adults in day care and residential settings, including those living with dementia. Inspired by Scotland’s ‘Elderflowers’ programme, Skylarks builds on the talents of our Clown Doctors, bringing their unique skills beyond children’s hospitals and into new environments.

The Skylarks programme transforms residential homes into vibrant spaces of engagement and interaction. By encouraging participation in group activities, Skylarks creates opportunities for shared experiences and builds a sense of community among residents. Music can unlock memories, storytelling can spark conversations, and gentle movement can bring renewed vitality. This approach addresses the emotional and psychological well-being of residents, creating a profound impact on their overall quality of life.

Skylarks isn’t just about activities; it’s about creating a holistic model of care that prioritises emotional and psychological health alongside physical needs. By integrating the arts into dementia care, we aim to transform residential homes from places of mere care into spaces of connection, creativity, and joy.
