Title of Work: Life’s Journeys to Freedom

The project explores the women’s courageous action to relinquish their traumatic pasts moving on with positive futures and celebrating that. The women having to avail of Women’s Aid refuges are in deep trauma, having fled physical and mentally abusive relationships. Starting again takes tremendous courage. The women support each other in house by sharing their stories and bolstering one another. Creating the mosaic artworks gave opportunity for the women to take their minds off their problems. They made art pieces to bring with them to new homes after their time at the refuge and a larger piece was created for the refuge building giving them ownership and pride in their achievements.
