Title of Work: Multi-Faceted Multi-Media
Arts Care Project Artist:
Céline Traynor
Art Form: Multi-Media

“A facet refers to the flat surfaces of a diamond that are arranged in a geometrical pattern. When cut by an expert, a diamond’s facets cause beautiful optical effects on the gemstone’s surface, and additional sparkle as its facets interact with light and each other.”

Over the course of the 8 sessions, I demonstrated a plethora of techniques with various media and we made many facets to create 2 and 3 dimensional diamonds, which included testing everyone’s mathematical abilities! The Cara Ladies ARE the sparkle!!

After learning the basic paper weaving technique, everyone was more comfortable to experiment with colours, patterns, thicknesses of warp and weft to create lots of square weaves, that when turned 90 degrees made a diamond. When placed together they make a colourful, patterned patchwork of facets.

Thank you to all the fabulous Cara Ladies who took part in the project and this year’s Here & Now Festival.
