After “Here & Now” 2023 our ‘Wise Men from the East’ had expressed an interest in felt making. Markey Robinson seemed a natural fit as a subject for these distinctly Belfast men, each a legend just like the Artist himself.
We examined the content of Markey’s legacy and choose wisely each of the pieces you see before you today. We worked collaboratively to create the pieces with support from our QUB Medical Students who were on a work placement with Arts Care. Markey’s work was groundbreaking his eye for simplicity second to none and his sense of place profound…we found joy in completing our homage to Markey and delight in the resulting artworks for this year’s Here & Now, none less than that of the recently deceased and sadly missed Jim Mawhinney who was the most senior member of our group and was a true Diamond Geezer. We look forward to doing him proud in 2025.
