Day Care Worker

Title of Work:
Vase of flowers

I work at the Island Resource Centre. I have been there for almost 20 years. The Day Centre closed for service users at the beginning of the pandemic so some of us were redeployed. I ended up working in Homecare going into peoples houses and getting them up in the morning and providing lunch, shopping and laundry. This was scary for me to start with because even though I had PPE, I was going into so many homes with risks of exposure, when most other people in the country were told to stay at home and don’t be in contact with others. This year has been a year where a lot of people have had the opportunity to be more creative during lockdown, which has helped them deal with the great changes in the world. It’s lovely to be able to share something that you produced and are happy with, with other people. I have been inspired in my work by other colleagues who have encouraged me to use my talents, so I enjoy inspiring service users to use their artistic talents to produce work that they are proud of and make them happy.
