Respiratory Consultant at Mater Hospital

Titles of Work:
Untitled
I started regular sea swimming in January 2020, and continued, when possible to swim throughout lock down. I’ve missed the wonderful lovely ladies I swim with and the friendships that have blossomed. The picture of is of Kilclief- a beautiful Friday morning – light through cloud and sparkling on the sea it reminds me of hope, escape and friendship.

Heather on Melmore Head
The picture is of Melmore head, with the heather blossoming, the start of my favourite walk in Donegal. It was a still day with soft gentle light and the honey scent of heather and sea.

The Beach, Tramore
The image is of Tramore a long beach, and to get there you walk along a forest track and then paths through the dunes. Clearly not a lot of blossom on the beach but the picture reminds me of the walk , the smell of yellow flowered ladies bedstraw, scented orchids , wild carrot and thyme , primroses in spring and late harebells. And I hear the song of the skylarks fluttering upward and dropping down.

Medium: Acrylic on canvas

I work in the Mater Hospital and am one of the consultants in the respiratory team. I’ve been working in ‘Covid wards’ throughout the first and second surge. There have been times of heart breaking sadness but also of kindness, grace and compassion - the light comes through. I hadn’t done any painting for about 6 months and the exhibition was a timely prompt, so many other things had been put on hold.
